Tamiya | Nissan R91CP Group-C, Legend Returns!

The legendary Group C icon returns! At the ongoing 64th Shizuoka Hobby Show, Tamiya has unveiled the re-release of the Nissan R91CP, perfectly capturing the high-octane spirit and timeless charm of this 1990s Le Mans classic.

 

 

Originally released in 1992, this legendary endurance racing machine is famous for securing victory at the Daytona 24 Hours with Japanese drivers Kazuyoshi Hoshino, Toshio Suzuki, and Masahiro Hasemi — marking the first overall Daytona win for a Japanese car.

 

 

The re-release version retains the classic Direct-Drive 2WD chassis, featuring an ABS bathtub frame reinforced with FRP plates. Equipped with an independent coil-sprung kingpin suspension setup, a rear FRP T-bar suspension and a 3-point rear suspension with a CVA oil damper, it delivers direct and highly responsive handling.

 

The kit includes a highly detailed aerodynamic body, separate molded parts for mirrors and wings, and even helmet markings for the original winning drivers. Additional scale details such as the molded cockpit, separate aerodynamic parts, gunmetal wheels, and high-grip sponge tires capture the spirit of classic Group-C racing.

 

 

 

Originally launched in 1992 under product number #58109, this model was re-released in 2012 as product number #84264. The upcoming 2026 reissue, designated as product number #47531, is scheduled to hit the market in August.

 



Direct-Drive 2WD Chassis

Based around an ABS plastic bathtub, with space frames front and rear and FRP plates, the chassis is a composite design that offers a rigid base to back up the fluid suspension: the result is a crisp, responsive drive. At the front, it has an independent coil-sprung king pin suspension setup, while the rear rigid suspension is a 3-point design with a 1.5mm thickness FRP T-bar and CVA oil damper. Ground clearance is adjustable (front: 2 settings, rear: 3 settings) according to running surface.

  • The sleek, low-profile and wide aerodynamic form is recreated by a polycarbonate body.


  • Headlights are separate polycarbonate parts. Paint them black and use the included stickers to finish them off.


  • The cockpit is realistically recreated with a steering wheel and a shift lever; the driver figure has 3 marking options.


  • The aero mirror on the driver’s side A pillar is faithfully captured.


  • The rear induction pod for cooling brakes is depicted with a separately molded component.


  • The large rear wing consists of plastic stays and a polycarbonate main wing and end plates.


  • The composite chassis is based around an ABS plastic bathtub frame with space frames front and rear and FRP plate.


  • An upper space frame solidifies the front end. Choose between two ground clearance settings.


  • The front suspension uses kingpins and coil springs.


  • The front 1-piece wheels feature a stylish 5-spoke design. Stickers are included to recreate the Goodyear and Eagle logos.


  • The gearbox rests atop an FRP T-bar, which is damped with a CVA oil damper in a rigid rear setup.


  • The 2WD direct-drive setup has a spur gear with built-in ball differential. Choose between three ground clearance setups.


  • Lightweight and grippy sponge tires are wider at the rear.
